We're a decade (ish) old it would seem and it's business as usual.
I'll be honest with you; this weeks VKTRS is a wee bit later than normal. We're still here on a sunday (just), but the preparation has been...slack. This is partly because of Real World demands, but is partly because today I have been enthralled by three pieces of television, all football related.
Firstly is Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, which is currently available on the iplayer and is a genuinely interesting piece of cinema, though those with little interest in the beautiful game or the man himself are likely to take little away from this unless you are curious about your minimalist cinema. Then there was the Carling Cup final; perhaps dull in terms of the quality on offer but high on drama and absolutely absorbing fare, while the same could not be said of the final part of my Sunday which involved Atletico Madrid beating Barcelona 4-3 in one of the best and most dramatic games I've seen for a long time. Fantastic stuff. On to more fantastic stuff then...
Our headline
piece this week involves the song of 2008 (in terms of SHEER IRRITATION), Kids by MGMT.
To be blunt, this is nonsense. This has nothing to do with their dreams of regressing themselves, perhaps into specially built wombs built of papier-mâché and filled with warm Sunny Delight.
Partly due to the success of Slumdog Millionaire and some intelligent marketing moves, M.I.A. and Paper Planes are everywhere at the moment. Judging by these lyrics however, I'm not sure why...
OH MY GOD! Maya wants to shoot some shit up and STEAL YOUR MONEYZZZ! OMFG! How dare she! I don't even have any money for her to steal, why does she want my, er, nothing?
A long time ago Tom was sat in bed watching some classic hangover fare and B*Witched - C'est la vie came on. To cut a long story short a few months later VKTRS came into being and finally after nearly 2 years Dave has torn the lyrics apart here.
Is this sexual orientation twenty questions? I know I'm probably reading into this too much but still, how often do you get asked this. Also the playing with the toy comment is totally unsubtle.>a
Finally Tom has a look at U2 and their timeless classik (sic) Where The Streets Have No Name.
Either way the manner in which Bono describes the events going on (nonchalantly; almost with a hint of enthusiasm) could imply that he has sadomasochistic tendencies.
Elsewhere it's been busy times for Video Killed the Radio Star and the background crew; we've been very busy getting The Weekly Summit spot on (and indeed you can listen to our radio production over here), while Tom has been enjoying this, probably the best thing to come out of Wigan since Wilson Palacios.

It's THAT song - everyone's favourite Love Will Tear us Apart rip off. 'Nuff said.
M.I.A. wants to mug you. Tom looks at just why this is.
B*Witched c'est la vie in a bizarre way actually inspired this site 2 years ago. Dave has a look at the lyrics and goes forth and multiplies.
Bono muses about a plethora of different topics in this incoherent bible of a song.
