issues

Hello there and welcome to the issues section of our website, somewhere where you can look at articles by issue and, of course, by category too - because at the time of writing we have far more standalone articles than single articles so it kinda makes sense to do things that way really. For a full list of articles please wander over here.

issue twelveissue 012 - march 22 2009
After a week's hiatus due to essay deadlines and job interviews and things like that, VKTRS is back and with an absolute bang. In addition to a lengthy editorial rant about the celebrity media being epitomised by the coverage surrounding Jade Goody's sad death, we actually have some normal satire based content!! Tom has a look at Chipmunk (words defy me), while Dave has a look at manly non-camp pieces by Right Said Fred and George Michael. In addition to all this first (and hopefully not last) time contributor Hector has some Billie Joe Armstrong. Ace stuff.

issue elevenissue 011 - march 09 2009
Just the three pieces this week then, though we're helped slightly by the fact that all three are absolute powerhouses at what they do. Firstly, Tom has a look at a joint (but still absolutely awful) collaboration by the Pussycat Dolls and Missy Elliot about women and the various flaws that men have and yada yada yada. Dave meanwhile has a look at pieces by Oasis and U2, bastions of the British rock scene who have both come back recently with, er, well more of the same really. But thats how bastions stay bastions I suppose.

issue tenissue 010 - march 01 2009
We've got a bumper issue here looking at songs which are regarded as genuine classics and some which will, begrudgingly, probably end up being remembered as being classics. Begrudgingly because this includes M.I.A and her recent (well recently re-released, it's been knocking around since 2007) smash Paper Planes (the only bad thing about Slumdog Millionaire really) and The Management (MGMT to themselves) with that irritating thing called Kids. In addition to this we have a pop gem in the form of C'est la Vie by B*Witched and a song regarded by some as a genuine classic in the form of Where The Streets Have No Name by Yoo Two.

issue nineissue 009 - february 22 2009
In our best issue to date we have a look at four absolute giants of the modern day music "scene". Corporal Tom has a look at two British bands with their eyes on world domination in the form of Razorlight (and their apt piece America) and Coldplay (with their cliche in music form - Fix You) while Major Dave has a look at a couple of American counterparts in the form of Beyonce (the one where she says single ladies loads) and Linkin Park (What I've done). Vital.

issue eightissue 008 - february 15 2009
To celebrate the fact that valentines day has just passed we made ourselves a little valentines day special featuring four articles on three absolute stomping classics of love songs - if you could say that about any love song. Dave has a look at Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin and also a look at I got you babe by Sonny & Cher - that Karaoke classic. Tom meanwhile has a look at something altogether more highbrow with analyses of the video AND (yes, AND!) lyrics for Hello by Lionel Richie. Cracking stuff.

issue sevenissue 007 - february 08 2009
With a number like 007 you'd assume we'd do a bond week, maybe analysing every bond theme ever amidst a load of glitz, glamour and glory. Well unfortunately we didn't think of that until after the issue was published; yes, I'll admit, somewhat of a shortcoming on our part. You're probably already over it though, and so am I so lets move on to reality. This week Tom has a look at an absolute mammoth of a song by Chamillionaire in the form of Ridin' Dirty, while Dave has a look at I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry and Lily Allens latest single.

issue sixissue 006 - february 01 2009
Ladies and gentlemen it's VKTRS VI. We've got a glitzy show for you this week featuring The Killers and the song that really, really had it coming - Human. Secondly Dave has had a look at another video in the form of Broken Strings by James Morrison and featuring Nelly Furtado a video which is just, well, utterly bizarre. Dave also has a look this week at the recent number one hit Just Dance by Lady GaGa, while Tom finishes with another piece on a Guns and Roses beast - Sweet Child o' Mine.

issue fiveissue 005 - january 25 2009
This week saw the premiere of the new U2 single, Get on your Boots. We couldn't help but mark the occasion of this abomination by giving it a totally fair and unbiased review (seriously! read the disclaimer at the start! REALLY!). In addition to a look at Ego and the Gang we also had a look at So What by Pink, the video for Whats it gonna be by H Two O (yeah) and some other kid and finally a look at Paradise City by Guns and Roses. A monster of a song - in every way.

issue fourissue 004 - january 18 2009
Barack Obama (of all people) gives us a vital and totally REAL (*maybe not) foreword to this weeks pop-spectacular. This week Tom has a look at two homegrown hits; Violet Hill by "The Cold Play" and one of the songs of 2008, Mercy by Duffy (which some would argue doesn't deserve to be savagely destroyed, so it's more of a constructive critique). Dave also has, as ever, two brilliant pieces - both for foreign female singers. He looks at Gabriella Cilmi and, one of VKTRS* favourite (for oh so many reasons) singers, Ms. Britney Spears.

issue threeissue 003 - january 11 2009
It sort of started out as a little bit of a gangsta, hip hop week but just with Alda (who isn't really gangsta at all, no matter how hard she tries) thrown in there as well. In addition to Alda, Dave also has a look at club-hit Ignition by R Kelly whilst Tom considers the video for Chamillionaire - Ridin' Dirty and also the lyrical masterpiece that is, er, Gangstas Paradise by Coolio (famous for his stint in the Big Brother House...ish). Back to the CBB house then...

pcdissue 002 - january 04 2009
This week sees us looking primarily at the absolutely amazingly awful song by the Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 (as opposed to 1997?). Tom has a look at both the lyrics and video of this song, with both turning into utterly bizarre pieces. Dave meanwhile has a look at two songs which are poles apart in terms of musical styling and content, and yet both have enjoyed not-inconsiderable amounts of radio airplay. Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up and Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire.

thrillerissue 001 - december 28 2008
In which we have, well, our first issue of the new era of vktrs* and we have a look at Thriller by Michael Jackson in it's entirity, right from start to finish. Featuring around 50 jokes with the words wacko, paedo or kid in. Well not really. It's far, far more than that.

There are nine articles all in all, featuring four by Tom, four by Dave and one from a brand new contributor known only as the mythical mystical "Lee".

we also have lots of other articles - here's the most recent below.
